  • Hoookay again,

yeah, its been a while, but Ive been busy, what do you want? in fact, even as this is being blogged im technically working, so there.

    SINCE WE LAST MET:

Phoenix was awesome, had maybe the best meal of my life in Scottsdale, Dani's hometown.

Visited Becca K in Santa Fe, it was awesome, she works ridiculous hours doing dangerous stuff with heavy things. If it were anybody else I would have made that remark, but that would just encourage her, and there are only so many 5'1" 98lb girls I truly fear will kick my ass if I annoy them. (Here's a hint, the other one is French)

Got home, drove to Philly, hung out with Jen in her bitchin Center City apartment. Chelsi came up for her 18th Birthday, a massive party was thrown by the 3 of us and lets just say, some photos were taken that will never see the light of day, and leave it at that.

Now, in addition to the Theatre Lab thing, I find myself roped in by the much publicized Capital Fringe Festival. I work an average of 5 to 7 shows a day,and will through the end if the month, yeah, how do you like THAT Becca K?!

yeah, so thats my life right now, 18 hour days of "interpretive and modern dance showcases", thats what I got

    more later

    enjoy

  • hoookay, me being in the midst of my fantabulous vacation is thing 1, but I will address that incompletely so as to get to thing 2.
Vacation, got into Vegas last wednesday, it was AWESOME. THe lighting designer in me had seizures of awesomeness for 2 days straight. I'm serious folks, it was fantabulous.
Then we went to see "O" at the Bellagio. Bar None, the best show I have ever seen of any form or sort, the lighting made me cry, the effects made me weep, brilliance.
Then we left and went to Bryce Canyon, it's a big hole in the ground. There was horse riding, and ATV riding, around a big hole in the ground.
Then we went to the Grand Canyon, it's a much, much bigger hole in the ground... we hiked... around a big hole in the ground. a big, big... BIG hole in the ground.
Then we went to Flagstaff Arizona, for like, 3 hours, I kind of like it, i could spend, maybe a whole day there before getting boerd, it was like if you took Takoma Park, multiplied it by 4 and set it by itself on a mountain plateau, youd have Flagstaff. Or Maybe Oldtown Alexandria. or, sort of like Faniel Hall (I think thats the name) for the Bostonians who read this, or kind of like South Street, for the recently transplanted Philly Girl.
Now we're in Sedona, it's crazy artsy and Zen obsessed, but it's an ok place to spend a couple of days.
So thats the score so far.

    Now for thing 2:
Jenn is back with Scotty. I say that with no actual malice in my voice, which I guess is a good thing. I've always known that Jenn's gonna do what Jenn's gonna do, and one of those things is hook up with people she's broken up with, maybe even get back together with them. Honestly, I think I liked the guy more when he wasn't dating my best friend. Besides the fact that that would be true of almost anybody, my only response is "meh". Apparently when she told him not to call for 3 weeks, he thought about calling me and asking me to talk to her. This was half a good idea, half not. No, I'm not going to talk to my best friend on behalf of her ex-boyfriend, I will however, tell him what he needs to know, should he ask me; something that would have saved alot of time and probably a little embarassment on his part. Incidentally, I ought to meet this Nate fellow. Why do I harp on someone else's relationships? 1, its fun, 2, its easier than harping on my own, 3, I can safely say that as the closest thing she has to an older brother, if he breaks her heart, I am personally gonna... sit back and watch her kick his ass. That might be fun

    Salud

  • Occasionally one has a moment of, I dunno, clarity, though I think it was more external forces than my lazy ass actually doing anything.
Since we last met, the following has transpired:
Got Home, in  let's say several pieces but not really worse for wear
Applied for Jobs pretty much anywhere I found myself standing for more than 30 seconds, including, but not limited to, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Anthropologie, Customer Service for US Airways at National Airport, American City Diner, and Steak 'n Egg... yes, you heard me right, I said Steak 'n Egg.
Subsequently, I get a call from the Theater Lab, they are looking for a full time Stage Manager/Tech Director for the summer to work with both their rep company and the Fringe festival in their space. I don't think I can accept fast enough, nevertheless, I still, on the safe side, send applications to the Warner Theater, Arena Stage, and Woolly Mammoth Theater, The National Theater laughs at me, not cause it's pathetic or anything, but because when you rent the National Theater, you et... a space, and nothing more, as such, they have a staff of, 4 people.
Hopefully the IATSE stagehand union guy will call me and I'll be able to also get on Union calls for places like the National, the KenCen and other big hitters on a per-show basis. Who knows?
Also then I stopped by the Canal, they are very shortstaffed, they need the help, so while I can't be their newest full time paid intern, I will probably find myself down there 2 to 3 days a week for atleast 1 or 2 of the boat tours volunteering. So anyone who wants to see me dress up in silly clothes and lead a mule drawn boat around Georgetown should definately do so.
I think the hours Im working for Theater Lab are good because they are at odd times, leaveing me free to do other stuff, so I'll just have to see what other stuff there is to be done, this could be fun.

    Ciao for Niao

  • That's What Friends are For

The new song is for Adrienne... sort of... I'll explain...
So, as Hartzman and Kaitlyn and Ray Proctor have discovered, by calling me to see if I wanted to come party with them, I am not in Madison this weekend. I am in New Orleans. As for why, it's because my Dad was sponsoring this concert program here, a sort of "bring the jewish music back to New Orleans" type thing. So I wasn't about to turn down a free trip to New Orleans. So here I am. Among other things, like meeting up with people from Burke who happened to be around, I've been catching up with Adrienne, who oes to Tulane, and also her parents were in town cause it's homecomming. And I love Adie's parents.
Adrienne and I were in Kindergarten and 1st grade together, then in 2nd grade, she moved away to Florida. This almost became another Stephanie story (where i dont see her again until like, 10 years later, when we pick up as if nothing changed) but through serendipity, after 2 more moves, she found herself in a suburb of Atlanta, a city which I frequent quite... well... frequently. So we've spent the last 10 years or so seeing eachother between 1 and 4 times a year, when Im in Atlanta. How well we've kept in touch really is a testament to perseverence of good friends, atleast I think so. The thing is, going that long without seeing one another, it's long enough for alot to happen, but its also short enough that you don't always notice the gradual changes. I remember looking back after her first semester at Tulane and thinking "damn, the 4th grader I knew was so pure and proper, when the heck did she become such a party girl?!". I dunno, I just feel like its amazing sometimes, and so rare, to find friends who grow with you, and in the same directions for so long, even when you're nowhere near eachother. I have a few friends like this, but a very select few, maybe just Adie and Sheri, you guys rock my world. You have become such strong and independant women, I'm so lucky to have friends like you that, at 20 years old I can say "these people have been my friends for a decade and a half".
